In the Town of Lomira, our focus is on serving the citizens of the community by providing a safe, clean and pleasant environment for the citizens to live in, while performing the necessary services to efficiently and cost-effectively accomplish those results.
The Town of Lomira is in the extreme Northeast corner of Dodge County, bounded on the north by Fond du Lac County, on the east by Fond du Lac and Washington County, on the south by Town of Theresa and on the west by the Town of LeRoy. Dodge County was created on December 7, 1836. In 1848, Wisconsin became a State and on April 10, 1849, The Town of Lomira was created. The area in those days was inhabited by Indians...The Winnebagoe, Fox, Illinois, Sauk and Potawotomi. The Village of Knowles, an unincorporated village which is still centrally located in the Town of Lomira, actually evolved several years earlier than the Town of Lomira. A history of the Village of Knowles was written by Mrs. Evelyn Schreiber, Mrs. Dorothy Breit, Mrs. Gertrude Reible, Mrs. Donetta Mutz, Mrs. Linda Schroeder, Mrs. Bonnie Gassner and Mrs. Viola Kliefoth, around 1977. There are several of the writers living in the area today. A source for reading this very interesting history can be obtained by contacting the Town Clerk.
Schooling for the Town of Lomira is provided by the Lomira, Mayville and Oakfield School Districts. Most of the Town is located in the Lomira School District. If you click on the above school district links, you will be able to visit each of the respective sites.
Building permits are required in the Town of Lomira, for new construction and some remodeling. Permits are issued by the Dodge County Planning & Development and Parks Department. | The Town affords many opportunities for its residents to have an impact on Town activity. Each month, on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 P.M. the Town Board meets to take up any business that comes before it. Other meetings of note are the Spring Annual Meeting, the Board of Review and the Budget meeting. Elections are held in Spring and Fall, sometimes more often. 2008 is an especially important year for elections. |
